So, um... like, hi? Embarassed

OK, I'm what I would consider an "aspiring" costumer. I have the desire, now all I need are the skills. I'm asking (pretty please) for a sewing machine for Christmas so I can work on those types of costumes, and our group (Chattooine) is also working on a vac-form table to handle the armor-type stuff. Until then, I'm here to learn.

On a more personal note, I'm originally from Chicago, but have been "here" since '87. My first love is Star Wars, but I would love to have costumes from several different movies/genres. I'm married with two kids (Abby and Anakin - yes... you read it right) and have been lucky enough to have met the greatest group of friends over the past year collectivly known as "www.Chattooine.com".

OK, I know I'm getting a sewing machine for sure now. It appears to be an entry level machine (I guess my wife wanted to be sure I really wanted to do this before she spent big money for one). Now I just need to learn how to use the darn thing. Hey Scarlet... er... a-tastic? Do you give classes? Very Happy
a-tastic

heh heh...ur..well, i don't actually know how to do much more than just plain ol' stitching on the sewing machine myself..
and i never get the stitch length, tension, or needle strength right the first time.
most sewing machines come with pretty good instruction manuals, especially if you register your machine. i know they sent me a kickin' cd rom when i registered my Brother machine.

i have yet to read my manuals all the way, though, hence i still have no clue how to use the machine to do buttonholes, zipper stitching, all that shadazzle.
however...
there's a woman that gives full on sewing classes in chattanooga. i think her name's anita.
i sent yaya her info a while back..
i'll dig it up for you if you're interested.

hee hee..i bet she got you one of those singers! they had 'em at target on black friday for $68. i picked one up myself, because my first sewing machine is on its last leg.

lesson #1 for sewing machines: don't take them to be serviced by the morbidly obese billy-bob-thornton-talkin' man at the hancock fabrics. he jest don't know whut he's doin', ummhh huh.

I looked at those Target machines... Cool No... I'm getting the ultra-cheap Brother 1717 (the blue one, not the pink!). I guess it'll do what needs to be done, although I did stress I really want one that will do the button holes in one step (vs 4 like most of the cheap ones). I can't tell if this is a 1-step or not, but I guess as long as I can stitch fabric together, it'll do the trick.

But yes... if you can get me the info on Anita, I'd be grateful. We'll see how frustrated I get when I start messing with it. Evil or Very Mad
